Series of Earthquakes Hit California, Warning of Approaching "Big Earthquake"

A series of earthquakes hit the Southern California area near the Salton Sea, causing concern among scientists and residents amid warnings of an approaching "big earthquake" that experts have long warned about and could cause massive destruction along the US West Coast.
According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), dozens of small to moderate earthquakes occurred Thursday night and Friday morning in the area surrounding the lake, located about 160 kilometers from San Diego.
The strongest of these earthquakes was recorded Friday morning at 5:55 Eastern Time, measuring 4.3 on the Richter scale.
It was followed by more than 30 aftershocks, most of which occurred at the southern end of the lake.
