In a controversial move that sparked wide discussions on social media platforms, Syrian star Samer Al-Masri strongly criticized the use of insults and offensive language in the dialogues featured in some current Syrian series, warning against excessive pursuit of "trending" at the expense of drama quality. In a provocative post on his official Instagram account, Al-Masri addressed his fellow artists, producers, and writers, saying: "When there is a dramatic justification for any scene, no matter how daring it may be, we certainly enjoy it. However, when insults and vulgar dialogues become part of the scene solely for the sake of provocation or attracting trends, it tarnishes the reputation of Syrian drama, which has been known over the years for respecting the intellect and taste of Arab viewers." Although Al-Masri did not mention any specific series in his speech, the hints he provided made the audience speculate that his remarks might be directed towards the series "Under the Seventh Sky," in which his compatriot Taim Hassan stars. This series has recently stirred a lot of controversy, especially due to some bold and personal dialogues delivered by Hassan in the role of "Major Musa," which included sharp phrases and scenes carrying political and social implications that may have raised questions among viewers. Despite various speculations, Al-Masri remains firm in emphasizing the necessity for Syrian drama to be more cautious in presenting content that respects the viewers' mentality and preserves its artistic distinction, away from attempts to ride the trend at any cost.
