Alexandria, in northern Egypt, experienced an unprecedented storm last night, Friday, May 30, 2025, which included heavy thunderstorms, snowfall, and strong winds exceeding 50 kilometers per hour.
These fluctuating conditions are considered the most severe during the winter season, as the province has never witnessed such harsh weather conditions before.
In light of this, Governor Ahmed Khaled Hassan Saeed closely monitored the developments of the severe weather conditions that peaked during the night, confirming the highest level of readiness in all executive bodies in the province to deal with this emergency situation, including varying intensities of rain and thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds.
The governor instructed all executive bodies to intensify field presence around the clock to monitor rainwater drainage and ensure smooth traffic flow, in full coordination with the sanitation company.
Officials in the province's operations room and control center were directed to monitor the situation moment by moment and observe any consequences resulting from the weather conditions.
The governor emphasized the immediate intervention of all executive bodies to clear rainwater accumulations as they occur, in addition to removing damages and losses caused by the strong winds that hit the province.
The Egyptian Meteorological Authority clarified that Alexandria is facing an unstable weather wave characterized by strong winds reaching about 50 kilometers per hour, increasing the sense of cold despite the summer season, leading to sand and dust disturbance in some areas.
The authority indicated that modern satellite images showed the condensation of low and medium clouds over wide areas of the northwestern coasts, including Alexandria, signaling continued thunderstorms of varying intensity in the coming hours, starting light to moderate then gradually increasing as the day progresses.
The authority also confirmed that the turbulent weather conditions will not be limited to Alexandria alone but will extend to several areas along the western coasts and the northern region, with chances of thunderstorms in scattered areas in the southern coastal region, accompanied by windy conditions that may stir up sand and dust, especially in the southern part of Upper Egypt.
The authority issued maritime warnings indicating a clear disruption in maritime navigation in the Mediterranean Sea due to wind activity and wave height, advising fishermen and ship captains to exercise extreme caution during navigation and temporarily avoid maritime activities.
