In a new escalation of diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the war in Gaza, the US State Department announced that negotiations between the parties involved are still ongoing through talks held in the Qatari capital, Doha. The US State Department's regional spokesperson, Samuel Warburg, emphasized that ending the war has become a strategic priority for the United States, stating that Washington is using all its political and diplomatic tools to pressure Israel and Hamas towards reaching a ceasefire agreement. Warburg added that the US administration is keeping communication channels open with the Israeli government, sending clear messages reflecting American interests, emphasizing that these interests come first, even within the framework of the relationship with Tel Aviv. Conversely, the Qatari Prime Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, expressed his dismay at the Israeli escalation, considering that the recent airstrikes clearly demonstrate Israel's lack of willingness to engage in serious negotiations. He explained that Israel's continuation of its military operations weakens the chances of reaching a permanent ceasefire, despite efforts made by various parties. Israel temporarily halted its airstrikes on Gaza on Monday, coinciding with the release of the American-Israeli soldier Eidann Alexander by Hamas, but resumed its airstrikes on the sector the following day, sparking sharp criticism and doubts about its negotiating intentions. According to sources within Hamas, communications with the US delegation are still ongoing, with talk of "progress" on some negotiation points, without revealing further details. An Israeli delegation headed to Doha on Tuesday to continue indirect negotiations on a ceasefire agreement, as mutual accusations persist between the two parties regarding hindering the reach of a comprehensive agreement. These developments come amid increasing international pressure on Israel and Hamas to halt hostilities, especially with the rising number of civilian casualties and deteriorating humanitarian conditions in Gaza.
