Philippe Lazzarini Renewed Call for Independent Investigations into Violations in Gaza

Philippe Lazzarini, the Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), today, Monday, renewed his call for independent and transparent investigations into what he described as "serious violations of international humanitarian law" in the Gaza Strip.

Lazzarini emphasized that the scale of destruction and human losses affecting civilians and essential infrastructure in the region requires urgent international accountability, stressing that the protection of civilians remains a top priority under international law.

He pointed out that the absence of independent investigations exacerbates a climate of impunity and threatens to repeat violations, calling on the international community to take immediate action to ensure justice.

These statements come at a time when international and UN calls for a ceasefire and ensuring humanitarian aid reaches the residents of Gaza are escalating, amid warnings of a worsening humanitarian disaster.
