Pedersen expressed his appreciation for the meeting with the Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Asaad al-Shaaban, stating in a post on his official account on "X": "I had a good meeting with Minister al-Shaaban, where we discussed the political transition process, including the expected formation of the People's Council, international engagement, the situation in the northeast, developments on the coast and in Sweida, in addition to other fundamental aspects of the situation in Syria."
The UN Special Envoy for Syria, Geir Pedersen, met with al-Shaaban in a meeting where they discussed the political and security developments in the country, with a particular focus on the political transition process.
The UN envoy emphasized the importance of the political process being comprehensive and transparent, with the participation of all segments of Syrian society, stating: "I value the exchange of views, it remains essential for the political process to be comprehensive and transparent, with the participation of all components of society, and ensuring real and effective representation of women."
Pedersen also called for continued international and regional support for Syria, affirming that "strong support from the international community and regional actors must continue."
