Manchester City announced today, Wednesday, that Egyptian striker Omar Marmoush will miss the highly anticipated derby against Manchester United, scheduled for next Sunday, after suffering a knee injury while participating with the Egyptian national team in the World Cup qualifiers.
According to the club's statement, initial tests conducted on the player in Cairo revealed a bruise in the knee ligaments, necessitating his return to England for a comprehensive medical evaluation and to start a rehabilitation program.
Marmoush had to leave the field injured just minutes after the start of his national team's match against Burkina Faso, which ended in a goalless draw, marking a significant blow for the Pharaohs in their qualifying campaign.
The absence of Marmoush represents an additional loss for City coach Pep Guardiola, who is already dealing with several significant absences, most notably Ryan Cherki and Mateo Kovacic, along with doubts surrounding the readiness of Phil Foden and Savinho, at a time when the team is in thirteenth place after three rounds of the league, having achieved only one victory.
It is worth noting that Marmoush joined Manchester City last January and performed well last season, scoring eight goals and providing four assists, but he has not yet succeeded in finding the net this season.
