Norwegian Foreign Minister, Espen Barth Eide, said on Wednesday that the recent decision of the International Court of Justice regarding the neutrality of UNRWA and its role in the Palestinian territories is an important step that came after a Norwegian initiative, expressing his satisfaction with the clarity of the decision and its content.
Eide emphasized that this decision does not concern Israel alone, but places all countries before legal and moral responsibilities towards protecting Palestinian civilians, stressing the need to refer the decision to the United Nations General Assembly for political and humanitarian action.
The minister added that the flow of international aid to Gaza has become an urgent necessity, and the court clearly stated that UNRWA is a neutral organization and must be allowed to operate without obstacles, especially in light of the deteriorating humanitarian conditions in the sector.
