Moscow objects to the reimposition of UN sanctions on Tehran

The Russian representative to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzya, announced that his country does not recognize the decision to reimpose sanctions on Iran, reflecting the ongoing international division over the Iranian nuclear file.
Nebenzya stated during a press conference marking the start of Russia's presidency of the Security Council in October that "Moscow does not see that the mechanism for the rapid return of sanctions has been activated," adding: "We will live in two parallel realities, as some believe that the sanctions have indeed returned, while for us, that has not happened."
The United Nations had announced the activation of the "snapback" mechanism, stipulated in the 2015 nuclear agreement, which led to the reimposition of sanctions on Tehran, including freezing its assets abroad, halting arms deals, and punishing any development of ballistic missile programs.
In contrast, the European troika countries (Germany, France, Britain) warned Iran against any escalatory steps, urging it to return to full compliance with its legal commitments under the nuclear agreement.
