Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Marwan Al-Halabi, met on Thursday with the representative of the World Health Organization in Syria, Kristina Beethke, and her accompanying delegation to enhance cooperation in supporting university hospitals and investing in the healthcare workforce. During the meeting, Minister Al-Halabi provided an overview of university hospitals and the services they offer, emphasizing ongoing efforts to improve this sector. He highlighted the importance of digital transformation, adopting unified standards for evaluation and monitoring, and developing accreditation mechanisms in educational and healthcare institutions to enhance efficiency and meet societal needs. The Minister stressed the importance of opening new horizons for cooperation and commended the vital role of the organization in supporting higher education hospitals in Syria. He expressed readiness for collaborative work to develop medical staff and improve the quality of healthcare services provided in educational hospitals, positively impacting medical higher education outcomes. Beethke affirmed the organization's keenness to expand cooperation with the Ministry of Higher Education, noting the regional office's efforts to enhance access to medications, raise awareness about drug abuse, develop human resources, and establish a comprehensive database on the medical sector in higher education to support evidence-based decision-making. The meeting was attended by the Minister's assistants for administrative affairs, Dr. Abeer Qudsi, for private universities affairs, Dr. Mohammed Swayd, and the Director of Cultural Relations at the Ministry, Dr. Nimir Issa.
