Maddox, the eldest son of star Angelina Jolie and actor Brad Pitt, has dropped his father's surname and appeared in the credits of his mother's new film as "Maddox Jolie" instead of "Maddox Jolie-Pitt".
Behind-the-Scenes Role in "Couture"
Maddox (24 years old) is working as an assistant director on the drama film Couture, in which Jolie plays "Maxine Walker", a woman diagnosed with breast cancer whose life intersects with two other women during Paris Fashion Week.
The film is directed by Alice Winocour and premiered in French cinemas this week.
Maddox had previously used the surname "Jolie-Pitt" when participating in the film Maria in 2024, where his mother portrayed the famous opera singer Maria Callas.
A Recurring Trend Among the Children
Maddox is not the only child of Pitt who has dropped his father's surname. His sister Zahara used the name "Zahara Marley Jolie" in 2023, while Shiloh dropped the surname in 2024 during her participation in a theatrical work. Vivian also appeared as "Vivian Jolie" in a theater magazine.
Brad Pitt's Stance
According to sources for People magazine, Brad Pitt (62 years old) was aware of his son's decision and expressed his displeasure, while also affirming his love and longing for all his children, describing the family situation as "extremely difficult for everyone".
The tension within the family dates back to Jolie and Pitt's divorce in 2019, following an incident on a private plane where Pitt was investigated by the FBI without any charges being filed against him.
Despite the years that have passed since the separation, reports indicate that the estrangement continues between Pitt and some of his children, amid repeated attempts to reconnect.
