Britain has welcomed the commitment made by the Syrian government regarding cooperation with the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons. A post on the British Foreign and Development Office's website via the X platform stated: "The United Kingdom welcomes the strong commitment of the Syrian government to turn the page of history and its determination to ensure the destruction of the chemical weapons program dating back to the Assad era completely." The ministry added: "We are encouraged by the operational and logistical support provided by Syria for visits by the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, and its commitment to engaging with the international community." The United Nations High Representative for Disarmament Affairs, Izumi Nakamitsu, praised the Syrian authorities' commitment to full and transparent cooperation with the organization and its technical integrity in a briefing to the Security Council the day before yesterday, noting that a team of technical experts from the organization's Technical Secretariat visited Damascus last March to begin establishing a permanent presence for the organization in Syria and to start joint planning for sending teams to chemical weapons sites.
