Lavrov and Rubio discuss steps to normalize relations between Moscow and Washington in New York

The Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed that Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his American counterpart Marco Rubio held a meeting in New York on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, addressing several bilateral issues and the prospects for normalizing relations between the two countries.
The ministry clarified in a statement that both sides coordinated their positions on the most important files of Russian-American relations, emphasizing the need to take advantage of the momentum provided by the leaders of the two countries to advance the path of rebuilding trust and enhancing cooperation.
The statement also indicated that the talks touched on the importance of restoring planned diplomatic activities between Moscow and Washington, agreeing to continue dialogue through the official channels of the foreign ministries.
The meeting, which took place behind closed doors, lasted about an hour. This is the first meeting since the two ministers met in July on the sidelines of the ASEAN meetings in Malaysia.
