In a decisive military development, the Sudanese army announced that the liberation of the capital Khartoum is in its final stage, confirming the continuation of the fighting until the complete elimination of the Rapid Support Forces.
Assistant to the General Commander of the Army and member of the Sovereignty Council, Lieutenant General Yasser Al-Atta, explained that the armed forces will not relent despite significant progress, emphasizing that the army is ready to confront anyone seeking to form a parallel government, and vowing to hold the Rapid Support Forces accountable for all crimes and violations committed.
The Sudanese army's field advancement has witnessed significant developments in recent days, managing to fully control Bahri locality, in addition to taking over the Presidency of the Defense Industries System, the Industrial Zone, and all squares of Kafouri. Its forces also succeeded in advancing into the Hilla Koko area east of the Nile, nearing the convergence with forces coming from Al-Jazeera, in a move to strengthen control over the capital.
Meanwhile, the army has launched a wide-scale attack on Tuti Island, the last stronghold of the Rapid Support Forces in central Khartoum, paving the way for the complete cleansing of the city.
These victories come after the army regained control of Wad Madani city, the capital of Al-Jazirah State, and lifted the siege on the Al-Jaili oil refinery north of Khartoum. In the past weeks, it also made progress towards the Republican Palace and took control of the Intelligence Headquarters, marking a significant strategic shift in the war.
Since the conflict erupted in April 2023, the war has caused widespread destruction, with 90% of industrial facilities destroyed, tens of thousands killed, and over 12 million Sudanese forced to flee. However, with the army regaining the initiative, it is now closer than ever to decisively winning the battle and regaining full control of Khartoum, in a step that could reshape the political and military landscape in Sudan.
