Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky affirmed today, Wednesday, July 2, that the sanctions imposed on Russia are severely affecting it, indicating that the continuation of these sanctions will compel Moscow to rethink beyond the logic of wars and hatred towards its neighbors, which may lead to ending the ongoing conflict.
Zelensky stated in a post on his official Telegram account: "We have clear evidence, confirmed by our partners, that the sanctions are truly painful for Russia. If this pressure continues, Russia will be pushed to think beyond the logic of fronts and hatred".
The Ukrainian President expressed his hope that the next six months, during which Denmark will preside over the European Union Council, will be a decisive period to support security issues, including supporting defense industries and enhancing sanctions on Russia, in order to make the pressure more effective and push towards ending the war.
This statement comes amid the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, where international calls are increasing to continue imposing economic sanctions on Moscow to pressure it to halt military operations.
