In an unprecedented escalation, US President Donald Trump threatened yesterday, Tuesday, July 1, to deport the billionaire and entrepreneur Elon Musk to South Africa, his birthplace, over Musk's continued attack on the tax and spending law supported by the White House administration.
Trump's threats came in response to a series of posts Musk published on his "X" platform, criticizing the law project that Trump describes as "great and beautiful," accusing it of increasing the US debt by a record amount of five trillion dollars.
Referring to the Republican and Democratic parties, Musk said: "It is clear that we live in a one-party country."
In response, Trump posted on "Truth Social" that Musk is upset about the cancellation of the electric vehicle support law, threatening that the billionaire may have to close his companies and return to his native country, South Africa.
Trump added: "We may have to consider deporting Musk," indicating that the government efficiency department, which Musk previously headed, may be asked to investigate his investments.
Musk had previously threatened to fund competitors of any Republican who voted for the law, saying he would continue to do so "even if it is the last thing he does on earth."
This escalation comes at a time when the American political arena is witnessing increasing disputes over government spending and national debts, amid wide anticipation of the repercussions of this confrontation between Musk and Trump.
