Italy plans to introduce a resolution in parliament to recognize the State of Palestine under specific conditions

The Italian Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, announced that the ruling coalition will present a resolution in parliament regarding the recognition of the State of Palestine, with preconditions specified.
Meloni stated during her remarks to reporters in New York on Tuesday that the resolution stipulates that the recognition of Palestine will be conditional on:
the release of hostages, and the exclusion of Hamas from any governance in Palestine.
She added that recognizing the State of Palestine in the absence of sovereignty criteria will not yield tangible results for the Palestinians, noting that "the main political pressure should be on Hamas, as it started this war and is obstructing its end by not releasing the hostages".
This announcement comes after several countries, including the UK, Canada, Australia, and France, recognized the State of Palestine, amid the ongoing Israeli military operation in the Gaza Strip.
