Israeli Chief of Staff Zamir comments on the Al-Lubban attack and the killing of two soldiers

Following a bloody armed operation that took place last Thursday evening at the Al-Lubban Bridge ( Al-Karama ) border crossing between the West Bank and Jordan, which resulted in the death of two Israeli soldiers and injuries to others, the Chief of Staff of the Israeli army Eyal Zamir  emphasized today, Friday, the importance of maintaining strategic security cooperation with Jordan, describing the relationship between the two sides as "extremely important for Israel's security."

Zamir's statements came during a field tour he conducted to the site of the attack, where he carried out a preliminary investigation at the scene of the operation and issued immediate instructions to halt the passage of commercial convoys through the crossing until the investigation is completed and final results are drawn.

Zamir described the attack as "a serious and horrific incident," confirming that the Israeli army will conduct a thorough investigation into its circumstances and will draw the necessary lessons to prevent the recurrence of such attacks.

"In recent months, we have formed a dedicated unit to protect the eastern border, and we are working to strengthen all defense components on this front. Despite what happened, we must remember that security cooperation with Jordan is a fundamental pillar of Israel's security and must be maintained."

According to the Israeli army and emergency services, the attack resulted in the death of two security personnel in the army, one around 20 years old and the other around 60 years old, who later died from their injuries, while the attacker was neutralized at the scene of the operation.

The Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the perpetrator of the attack is the citizen Abdul Muttalib Al-Qaisi, without providing further details about the motives or circumstances of the operation.

The Al-Lubban Bridge ( known to Palestinians as "Al-Karama Crossing" ) is one of the most important crossing points between Jordan and the Palestinian territories, with Israel controlling its western side.

This crossing was first established as a wooden bridge in 1885, and has been rebuilt several times after being destroyed due to floods and repeated wars.

The crossing is primarily used by Palestinians traveling abroad, whether for performing pilgrimage rituals or through Queen Alia International Airport in Jordan.

It also serves as a vital economic artery for trade between Jordan and Israel.

This escalation comes amid security tensions along Israel's eastern borders, with increasing warnings of security breaches that could disrupt the sensitive balance between Tel Aviv and Amman.

The incident coincides with international and regional statements closely monitoring the developments in the security situation in the West Bank and Jordan.

The Israeli army is expected to reveal the results of the official investigation in the coming days, while political and military circles are awaiting the implications of the operation on relations with Jordan.
