One person was killed and three others were injured today, Friday, in an Israeli airstrike targeting a car near the entrance of the Tebnine government hospital in southern Lebanon, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Health.
This attack comes days after extensive airstrikes carried out by Israel on five villages in southern Lebanon, which it claimed targeted weapon storage belonging to Hezbollah.
The border between Israel and Lebanon has witnessed escalating tensions for over a year, following the outbreak of war in the Gaza Strip in October 2023, which turned in September 2024 into a bloody confrontation that lasted two months, during which Hezbollah suffered significant losses in its military structure and leadership.
Despite the ceasefire agreement, Israel continues its airstrikes on Lebanese territory, targeting what it describes as elements and weapon storage belonging to the party.
The Lebanese Ministry of Health stated in a statement that the airstrike targeted a car in front of the Tebnine hospital, resulting in one fatality and three injuries, while the Israeli army confirmed that it targeted weapon depots belonging to "Al-Ridwan Force", the elite unit of Hezbollah, noting that these weapons violate the understandings between Lebanon and Israel and endanger civilians.
For his part, Lebanon condemned these airstrikes, and President Joseph Aoun criticized the "silence of the sponsoring countries" of the ceasefire agreement, describing it as a "serious negligence" that encourages these aggressions, and called for an "immediate end to these violations".
For its part, the United Nations Interim Force in Southern Lebanon (UNIFIL) considered the airstrikes to represent a "clear and explicit violation of Security Council Resolution 1701", and a direct threat to the fragile stability in the region.
It demanded that the Israeli army immediately cease the airstrikes and fully withdraw from Lebanese territory.
It is worth noting that the ceasefire agreement, which came into effect in November 2024 under American and French sponsorship, stipulated Hezbollah's withdrawal from the area south of the Litani River and the dismantling of its military structure there, and limiting weapons in Lebanon to official agencies, as well as halting military operations and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the areas they advanced into.
However, Israel kept its forces in five hills and continued its strikes under the pretext of preventing Hezbollah from rebuilding its military capabilities after the war.
