The Iraqi Foreign Minister, Fuad Hussein, announced on Thursday the convening of the next Arab summit in the capital Baghdad on May 17th.
Hussein chaired the twelfth preparatory meeting for the Baghdad summit, in the presence of the Secretary-General of the Iraqi Cabinet, Hameed Al-Ghazzi, Baghdad's Secretary Ammar Musa Kazem, and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Naeef Rashid Al-Dulaimi, along with officials from relevant ministries and sectors, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs media office.
The office stated in a press release that "the latest preparations for the summit were reviewed, and the reports presented by the specialized committees were discussed, including logistical, technical, and organizational arrangements."
Additionally, "detailed plans to ensure the success of the event were discussed, including ceremonial procedures, security coordination, and media coverage," according to the statement.
During the meeting, Hussein mentioned that after discussions held in Cairo, the headquarters of the Arab League, "May 17, 2025, has been officially set as the date for the Arab summit in Baghdad."
He added that "Iraq is working to create all suitable conditions to ensure its success, reflecting a positive image of the country and enhancing the joint Arab work."
Meanwhile, the Arab region is witnessing urgent issues, including the genocidal war waged by Israel against the Palestinian people in Gaza and the West Bank, the repercussions of the recent Israeli war on Lebanon, and the ongoing Israeli attacks on Syria's sovereignty.
On Tuesday, Cairo hosted an emergency Arab summit on Palestine, where a plan to rebuild Gaza without displacing its residents was adopted, with implementation expected to take five years and cost around $53 billion.
In light of Israel and the United States rejecting the plan and adhering to the scheme proposed by former U.S. President Donald Trump since January 25th, which promotes the relocation of Gaza Palestinians to neighboring countries like Egypt and Jordan, a plan rejected by these countries, joined by other Arab nations, regional organizations, and international entities.
