Saudi Arabia launches the first squadron of the American THAAD missile defense system

The inauguration came after completing the system's testing, inspection, operation, and conducting field training for its personnel inside the country.
The inauguration took place during a ceremony at the Air Defense Forces Institute in Jeddah, in the presence of the Air Defense Forces Commander, Major General Mazid Al-Amro.
During the ceremony, Al-Amro handed over the squadron's flag to the first squadron commander, marking its official entry into service within the Air Defense Forces systems.
This squadron's inauguration is part of a project aimed at enhancing the readiness of the Air Defense Forces and increasing their capabilities in protecting the airspace and vital installations, according to the agency.
Earlier, the first and second squadrons of the THAAD system were deployed after their personnel completed specialized individual training courses at a base in the United States.
