Investigations in South Korea.. Young Woman Accused of Planning Two Crimes Using ChatGPT

From Injury Charge to Murder
The suspect, identified as “Kim,” was initially arrested on February 11 on charges of causing injury leading to death, before the charge was later elevated to murder after analyzing her digital record and online behavior, which investigators deemed indicative of premeditated intent.
Details of the Incidents
The first incident dates back to January 28, when the accused allegedly met a man in a hotel in the Gangbuk district of Seoul and offered him a drink mixed with sedatives, before he was found dead the next day.
The second incident occurred on February 9 in a similar manner inside another hotel in Seoul. The police are also investigating a previous attempt from December 2025 in the city of Namyangju, where her partner lost consciousness after consuming a drink mixed with a sedative.
Digital Record Under Scrutiny
Investigations revealed that the accused searched through ChatGPT for the effects of mixing sleeping pills with alcohol, asking about dangerous doses and the potential for causing death.
The police also seized medications from the benzodiazepine class, including “Xanax” and “Valium,” which affect the central nervous system, reinforcing the hypothesis of intentional dose increases after the first incident.
Psycho-Evaluation and Ongoing Investigations
Despite the accused claiming she was unaware that the doses could be fatal, investigators believe she was aware of the dangers of combining sedatives with alcohol.
The authorities continue their investigations to determine if there are other victims, and the accused will undergo a comprehensive psychological evaluation before being referred to trial, in a case that raises widespread controversy over the misuse of artificial intelligence tools.
