The United States' use of the veto right on a resolution to immediately stop the war and famine in the besieged Gaza Strip on June 4th sparked widespread global condemnation and anger. The Russian Foreign Ministry commented on the American veto, stating that Washington "missed another opportunity to stop the bloodshed and famine in Gaza." The condemned draft was prepared by the ten non-permanent members of the council, calling for an immediate, unconditional, and permanent ceasefire in Gaza, urgent release of hostages, and the full lifting of all restrictions on aid delivery safely and without obstacles, in accordance with international humanitarian law standards and principles. Russia, along with 13 other delegations, voted in favor of the document, while the United States representatives voted against it, using the veto for the seventh time since the beginning of the crisis, opposing Security Council resolutions on Palestinian-Israeli settlement issues. The U.S. practically rejected its own plan to reach a "deal" between Israel and Hamas, which was included in the text and developed in collaboration with Egyptian and Qatari mediators.
