The legal circles are still in a state of research and speculation regarding the executive order signed by US President Donald Trump on Wednesday evening. Among the questions surrounding those affected and exempted, FIFA and international sports clubs are scrambling to determine if this decision will include participants in the Club World Cup, which will be held this year in several US cities, in addition to the 2026 World Cup and the 2028 Olympics. According to the British newspaper "The Guardian," the order includes an exception stated in Section Four, which states that "any athlete or member of a sports team, including coaches, essential support personnel, and relatives traveling to participate in the World Cup, Olympics, or any other major sporting event as determined by the Secretary of State, are not subject to this ban." The Guardian also reported that a spokesperson for FIFA declined to comment on the decision, and there is ambiguity about whether the term "World Cup" in the order refers only to the 2026 World Cup or also includes the Club World Cup being held this year. The impact of this ban on players residing in the United States who play for teams affected by the ban during the current international break is still unknown.
