International Court of Justice: No Evidence of UNRWA Bias… and Israel is Obligated to Facilitate Relief and Meet the Needs of Palestinians

The International Court of Justice issued a series of decisive rulings regarding the humanitarian situation in the Palestinian territories and the role of UNRWA, confirming that there is no evidence of the agency violating the principle of neutrality or practicing discrimination in the distribution of aid.

The court emphasized that UNRWA plays a role that no other organization can replace under the current circumstances, considering its presence essential to meet the increasing humanitarian needs in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.

In this context, the court held Israel clearly legally responsible, confirming that it is obligated to ensure the basic needs of the Palestinian civilian population are met, and to allow full relief efforts carried out by the United Nations within the Palestinian territories.

The court also denied the existence of evidence proving that a large segment of UNRWA staff belongs to Hamas, which undermines the accusations directed at the agency in recent months.

In a notable ruling, the court considered the use of starvation as a method of warfare to be unlawful, and that Israel cannot justify it under any circumstances, reinforcing international demands to lift the blockade and facilitate the urgent and sustainable entry of humanitarian aid.
