India lacks accurate and up-to-date data on its growing population. The caste system is a significant issue in Indian life and politics, with hundreds of occupational and economic classes, especially among Hindus. Recently, Indian authorities are gearing up to conduct a massive population census starting next year. According to Indian media reports, the first digital population census in 16 years is planned, including controversial questions about Indian social classes for the first time since independence. The Ministry of Home Affairs announced plans for a two-phase census that will conclude on March 1, 2027. The last official population census in India was conducted in 2011, with a population of 1.21 billion. Current estimates suggest the population has now exceeded 1.4 billion, making India one of the world's most populous countries, according to the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs.
