The U.S. Department of Defense (Pentagon) has approved a potential deal to sell equipment and support services for the main battle tanks system "M1A2 Abrams" to Kuwait, valued at approximately $325 million. According to a statement issued by the Pentagon, "General Dynamics" will be the main contractor in this deal, which includes providing technical and logistical support related to the operation and maintenance of "Abrams" tanks. This approval comes after a previous deal announced by the Pentagon in September 2022, where Kuwait received approval to purchase operational and training ammunition and spare parts related to the tanks themselves, valued at $250 million at that time. The U.S. Department of Defense confirmed in a statement at that time that the deal will contribute to supporting the foreign policy and national security of the United States by enhancing the capabilities of one of its main allies outside the NATO alliance, which is an active partner in supporting political stability and economic progress in the Middle East region. The statement indicated that the deal will enhance Kuwait's ability to confront current and future regional threats by ensuring the continued operation of "M1A2 Abrams" tanks and updating its armored fleet, supporting deterrence and defense capabilities against land threats, and protecting vital infrastructure and border areas of the country.
