Researchers from the University of Liverpool in the UK revealed exciting results confirming that not drinking enough water significantly enhances the body's stress response.
The new study, which included 32 participants, 16 of whom drank less than 1.5 liters daily, while others adhered to the recommended amounts, showed that individuals who reduce their water intake release higher levels of the stress hormone "cortisol", even though they do not feel thirstier than others.
Researchers confirm that carrying a water bottle close to you during stressful times may be an effective way to maintain your mental and physical health in the long term, according to the British news agency "PA Media".
The study relied on the guidelines from the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), which recommends drinking 2.5 liters daily for men and about 2 liters daily for women.
Meanwhile, the "Eatwell" guide in the UK advises consuming 6 to 8 cups of fluids daily, which is approximately equivalent to 1.5 to 2 liters.
Experts emphasize the necessity of increasing fluid intake in cases of hot weather, intense physical activity, recovery from illnesses, pregnancy, or breastfeeding, to ensure body balance and reduce the chances of experiencing stress.
