The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs "OCHA" stated today, Friday, that the ceasefire in Sweida is partially in place, but intermittent clashes and reports of killings, abductions, and attacks on civilians confirm the fragility of the security situation.
The office added that "as of August 19, there were approximately 184,000 internally displaced persons from Sweida, with 63% still within the governorate, and the rest in Daraa and rural Damascus."
It mentioned that about 13,800 displaced persons have returned to their towns, 83% of them from Daraa and 17% from Sweida.
The UN office pointed out that the most urgent humanitarian needs are: shelter, non-food items (mattresses, blankets, kitchen utensils), clean water, sanitation facilities, health services, and food security. It emphasized that basic services in Sweida remain severely disrupted.
It added that a joint UN mission visited Sweida to assess urgent needs in the sectors of health, water, electricity, and education.
According to the office, between July 20 and August 21, 14 humanitarian convoys arrived and provided assistance to more than 314,000 people, including food, medical supplies, and essential household items.
The "OCHA" office stated that it is working to enhance cooperation with the Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management and at the local level to ensure the delivery of aid, facilitate access, and mobilize resources.
