Amid the ongoing Israeli siege on the Gaza Strip, the humanitarian disaster deepens day by day, as the Palestinian Ministry of Health announced today, Wednesday, the recording of six new deaths in the past 24 hours, including a child who died due to hunger and malnutrition.
According to the official statement issued by the ministry, the number of famine victims in the sector has risen to 367 people, including 131 children, in a horrifying toll that reflects the extent of the suffering experienced by the civilian population, especially children.
The ministry confirmed that the situation has worsened since the Global Food Security Classification Unit (IPC) announced on August 22 that Gaza had officially entered a state of famine, noting that since that date alone, 89 people have died, including 16 children, due to hunger and nutritional deficiencies.
Gaza is currently experiencing a suffocating humanitarian crisis due to the comprehensive siege that prevents the entry of food, medicine, and essential humanitarian supplies, while the near-total collapse of the health system continues.
The Ministry of Health renewed its call to the international community and humanitarian and relief organizations for immediate and urgent action to stop the disaster and save those who remain alive, warning that the continuation of this situation could lead to a tragic increase in the number of victims in the coming days.
Meanwhile, thousands of Israeli soldiers are preparing to launch a wide ground attack on the city of Gaza and occupy it completely, raising international concerns about an unprecedented worsening of the humanitarian crisis.
This escalation comes amid a varied international stance, as all members of the United Nations Security Council, except for the United States, have described the famine in Gaza as a "man-made crisis," emphasizing that the use of starvation as a weapon in wars is completely prohibited under international humanitarian law.
The sector continues to endure amid tragic humanitarian conditions, while the international community insists on limiting itself to warnings without taking tangible steps to end the suffering.
