UNICEF: The worsening of malnutrition in Sudan.. More than 315,000 children suffer from acute malnutrition

The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) stated that the rates of acute malnutrition in Sudan have exceeded the emergency threshold in more than 60% of the areas covered by field surveys between January and July 2025.
The organization's report explained that 38 nutrition and mortality surveys conducted during the mentioned period showed that 80% of the areas in the Darfur region, particularly North Darfur, recorded rates exceeding the emergency threshold of 15%.
The report indicated that the number of children suffering from acute malnutrition has risen to 315,454, an increase of 48.4% compared to the first half of 2024, confirming that the food and health conditions in the country are deteriorating rapidly due to the war that erupted on April 15, 2023, which has destroyed livelihoods in both rural and urban areas.
UNICEF also pointed out that the educational crisis in Sudan is worsening, with 14 million children out of 17 million outside the educational system, especially in the states of Darfur and Kordofan.
According to the report, the organization's response plan, amounting to one billion dollars, has only been funded by 38%, which threatens to undermine its efforts to provide assistance in the areas of child protection, education, health, nutrition, water and sanitation, and cash support.
The organization aims to support 13.1 million people, including 8.7 million children, at a time when Sudan is facing intertwined crises including armed conflict, the spread of epidemics, food insecurity, and widespread flooding.
