Munich International Airport, one of the largest airports in Germany, witnessed another night of chaos after several drones were spotted in its vicinity, leading to the suspension and delay of dozens of flights and affecting thousands of travelers.
The airport stated in a statement on its website, on Saturday morning, that "the start of flight operations was delayed on October 4, 2025 due to the sighting of drones," urging travelers to check the status of their flights before heading to the airport.
The German air traffic control authority announced the suspension of air operations as a precautionary measure, for the second night in a row, while the police opened an investigation into the incident to determine the source of the drones.
The airport clarified that the safety of travelers remains the top priority, noting that the incident caused the cancellation of 12 flights, the diversion of 23 incoming flights, and the delay of 46 departures, affecting about 6,500 travelers.
To mitigate the impact of the delays, the airport collaborated with airlines to secure the needs of travelers, providing camping beds, blankets, drinks, and snacks inside the terminals.
This closure follows a similar incident on Friday, when a drone was spotted over a nearby military facility, causing operations to temporarily halt and disrupting travel at the airport.
