Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan revealed significant progress in the ongoing talks between Ankara and both Qatar and Oman regarding the purchase of Eurofighter jets, confirming that the negotiations include complex technical details and are witnessing positive developments.
Erdogan stated in remarks following his Gulf tour, which included Kuwait, Qatar, and Oman, that Turkish defense industry companies held "fruitful" meetings with their counterparts in the two Gulf countries, adding: "In coordination with the National Defense Ministry, we discussed with both sides the purchase of Eurofighter jets, and the talks have been ongoing for a while and are steadily progressing towards positive results."
The Turkish president explained that Ankara and Muscat agreed to establish a "Joint Coordination Council" to enhance bilateral cooperation, noting the signing of 16 new cooperation documents covering the fields of defense industries, energy, technology, industry, and investments.
Regarding his visit to Qatar, Erdogan praised the "excellent relations" between the two countries, pointing out that the Turkish-Qatari High Strategic Committee meets annually under joint leadership with the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to assess the course of bilateral cooperation.
He added: "We are in complete agreement with Qatar regarding regional issues, and the results of our joint initiatives have clearly appeared in key files such as Palestine, Syria, and Afghanistan."
As for his first stop in Kuwait, Erdogan clarified that the visit resulted in the signing of six new cooperation agreements, in addition to the adoption of four documents related to transport, energy, and investment, as well as discussing projects in the field of defense industries under a government sales protocol signed between the two countries last year.
These moves come as part of Turkey's efforts to strengthen its strategic partnerships in the Gulf region, particularly in the fields of defense, technology, and energy, enhancing its regional presence and role in common security files.
