Elon Musk's Grok Under European Investigation for Fake Sexual Images

The X platform is facing a European investigation after the AI chatbot "Grok" began generating fake (deepfake) sexual images without the consent of their owners, including images that may involve children, according to the Irish Data Protection Authority.
The authority stated that it notified the X platform yesterday, Monday, about the opening of the investigation under the strict privacy regulations in place in the twenty-seven European Union countries, a move that increases European and global scrutiny on Grok's behavior.
Grok sparked global criticism last month after it began fulfilling user requests to create "nude" images of people using AI, including placing women in transparent or revealing clothing.
Although the company imposed some restrictions on the bot later, European authorities deemed them insufficient.
The Irish authority confirmed that the investigation will focus on whether the X platform has complied with European data protection laws, particularly concerning the creation and distribution of intimate or sexual images without the consent of their owners, which "may be harmful," including personal data of Europeans, including children.
It is noted that Grok is developed by Elon Musk's AI company, X.AI, and is available on the X platform where all users can publicly see its responses to requests.
No official comment has been issued by the X platform yet regarding the European investigation.
