The English Community Shield match, which took place between Liverpool and Crystal Palace yesterday Sunday at Wembley Stadium, witnessed an unfortunate incident that spoiled a moment of silence dedicated to honoring the spirit of the late Portuguese star Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva.

Before the match began, which marks the opening of the new football season in England and brings together the league and FA Cup champions, players from both teams stood in a circle at the center of the pitch to observe a minute of silence in mourning for the passing of Jota and his brother, who died in early July in a horrific car accident in Spain that led to the burning of the Portuguese star's car.

However, the touching moment was met with provocative behavior from a group of Crystal Palace fans, who booed during the minute of silence, prompting referee Chris Kavanagh to cancel it before it was completed, according to what was reported by The Athletic.

Jota, the former Liverpool star, lost his life alongside his brother Andre Silva in the tragic accident, which sparked a wave of sadness in the global football community.
For its part, Liverpool FC made sure to honor their late player in several ways, most notably by retiring the number "20" he wore, in addition to organizing a special minute of silence in the first summer friendly match the team played at Anfield.

The inappropriate behavior from some Palace fans was met with widespread criticism on social media, with calls for action against those who disrespected that human moment that was supposed to be filled with feelings of sadness and respect.
