China Launches Largest Underground Neutrino Observatory to Study the Secrets of the Universe

China has launched the largest underground neutrino observatory in Guangdong Province, where data collection has begun from a massive detector containing 20,000 tons of luminous liquid, designed to detect neutrinos coming from the sun, supernovae, and the atmosphere, as well as from the nearby nuclear power plants.

The Jiangmen Observatory (JUNO) aims to study the nature of matter and the origin of the universe, featuring a giant acrylic sphere with a diameter of 35 meters at a depth of 700 meters, with around 700 researchers from 74 research institutions in 17 countries participating in the project, which is expected to operate for more than 30 years.
