Chaos at Cologne/Bonn Airport Due to Sudden Power Outage

Cologne/Bonn Airport, one of Germany's largest airports, experienced chaos yesterday, Thursday, February 26, 2026, after a sudden power outage that lasted for about an hour, resulting in only one security screening lane being operational, which led to long waiting lines at the security checkpoints.
A spokesperson for the airport confirmed that the malfunction was quickly resolved, noting that the outage lasted only about an hour, while the airport provided details of the crisis on its website.
West German Radio “WDR” reported the incident earlier, citing the German news agency dpa.
It is worth mentioning that this is not the first time the airport has faced technical issues; it experienced a malfunction at the security checkpoints two weeks ago due to a failure in the new technologies that were recently implemented.
The international airport is located 12 kilometers from the heart of Cologne and 16 kilometers from Bonn, ranking sixth among Germany's largest airports by passenger numbers in 2023, and third in terms of air freight volume, making it a vital hub for both travelers and cargo alike.
