Biden begins radiation and hormone therapy after being diagnosed with prostate cancer

Former U.S. President Joe Biden's team announced on Saturday that he has started receiving radiation and hormone therapy as part of a treatment plan to address his prostate cancer diagnosis, which was revealed last May.

The spokesperson explained that this phase of treatment comes after Biden, who is 82 years old and will turn 83 next month, underwent surgery in September to remove cancerous cells from his skin.

Biden had disclosed in May that he has metastatic prostate cancer (which has spread beyond its original site), while his medical team confirmed that the disease is "aggressive but responds to hormone therapy," giving doctors a chance to control it.

Prostate cancer is the most common type of cancer among men, accounting for about 15% of all cancer cases globally, and its severity varies depending on the stage of diagnosis and the extent of cancer cell spread.
