The Argentine ambassador in Moscow, Enrique Ignacio Ferrer Vieira, announced that his country is ready to consider the possibility of sending military forces to Ukraine as part of an initiative aimed at ensuring security and reaching a peaceful settlement.
In an interview with "RBK", Vieira said: "These issues are discussed at a high political level, and if it requires the participation of the Argentine armed forces to ensure security in Ukraine, President Javier Milei will be ready to consider that," stressing that Buenos Aires hopes that Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky will reach a "sustainable peace".
These statements come days after a meeting held in Paris on September 4 for what is known as the "Alliance of the Willing", chaired by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron, where 26 countries announced their commitment to deploy "deterrent" forces in Ukraine after a ceasefire.
However, Moscow was quick to warn, as President Vladimir Putin confirmed at the Eastern Economic Forum on September 5 that Russia would consider any foreign troops deployed on Ukrainian territory as "legitimate targets", reiterating his firm rejection of Kyiv's accession to NATO.
The Russian Foreign Ministry also emphasized in repeated statements that any scenario of deploying Western forces in Ukraine is "absolutely unacceptable" and carries the risk of serious escalation, describing the statements of some European countries regarding sending troops as "incitement to continue the war".
