The Italian Carlo Ancelotti, the head coach of the Brazilian national team, praised his experience with the Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich, the former owner of Chelsea, confirming that it was different from all his coaching stops.
Ancelotti, who has led major clubs like Milan, Real Madrid, and Paris Saint-Germain, revealed in his autobiography "The Dream – Winning the Champions League" that he felt Abramovich's shadow accompanying him throughout the two years he spent at Stamford Bridge, where he joined Chelsea in 2009 and achieved the domestic double in his first season, before being sacked the following year.
The Italian coach said: "Abramovich wanted me to win the Champions League and to establish an identity for the team. I quickly discovered that he expected things to go perfectly, and if that didn’t happen, he demanded clear answers."
He added: "I had never been under this level of scrutiny before; even Berlusconi at Milan was less intrusive despite being a demanding owner, simply because he was busy being the Prime Minister of Italy."
Ancelotti, who holds the record for five Champions League titles as a coach, considered that the experience of dealing with Abramovich remains a landmark in his decades-long career in European football.
