Algeria announced the relaunch of the Trans-Saharan gas pipeline project, after a long halt due to funding and security obstacles.
Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune clarified on Monday, during his meeting with the head of the ruling military council in Niger, that the practical procedures for the project will begin after the upcoming Ramadan.
The gas pipeline, which was conceived in the 1970s, is an important strategic option in light of recent changes in global energy markets.
However, experts warn of several challenges that the project may face, most notably security risks in transit areas, difficulties in securing funding, and fluctuations in the political and regional climate.
