The Egyptian artist Shady Alfonse closes the chapter on his accusation of drug possession, after the Cairo Criminal Court ruled his acquittal in the case that captured public attention in recent times.
The case began when a security patrol stopped the car in which the artist was traveling in Tahrir Square, where approximately 5 grams of marijuana were found in the back seat. As a result, Alfonse was referred to the investigative authorities, before the prosecution decided to release him on bail.
During the investigations, initial findings indicated that he admitted to possessing the substance for personal use, explaining that he was on his way to drop off his wife at her workplace in downtown Cairo at the time of his arrest.
The news sparked widespread interaction on social media, especially since Alfonse is considered one of the well-known faces since his participation in the satirical program hosted by media personality Bassem Youssef between 2011 and 2014, before he turned to cinema and drama projects.
With the issuance of the ruling, the curtain officially falls on one of the most discussed artistic cases in recent weeks.
