In a qualitative operation that reflects the joint security cooperation between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Lebanon, Lebanese authorities succeeded in thwarting the largest attempt to smuggle cocaine, thanks to accurate information provided by the Saudi Ministry of Interior represented by the General Directorate for Drug Control.
The operation resulted in the seizure of 125 kilograms of cocaine , which was hidden inside a large shipment of "gallons" of vegetable oils coming from Brazil.
This shipment was headed to the port of Tripoli in northern Lebanon, where criminal networks aimed to smuggle cocaine into the Lebanese and Arab markets.
Brigadier Talal Al-Shalhoub, the security spokesperson for the Saudi Ministry of Interior, confirmed that this operation is part of the Saudi authorities' follow-up on cross-border criminal activities that target the security of the Kingdom and its brotherly and friendly countries.
He also indicated that Saudi Arabia continues to enhance coordination with the relevant countries to stop these criminal activities.
For his part, Lebanese Interior Minister Ahmad Al-Hajjar confirmed that the operation came after the exchange of vital information from the Saudi authorities, which led to the discovery of the ship hidden with the drugs.
Al-Hajjar added that investigations are ongoing, and there are ongoing pursuits of the individuals involved in this crime.
The operation serves as a living example of the effectiveness of Arab security coordination and reaffirms the ability of Arab countries to cooperate in combating drug crime and protecting Arab youth from its evils.
