Iranian Supreme Leader's advisor for international affairs, Ali Akbar Velayati, stated that European countries have been insulted since the arrival of U.S. President Donald Trump to power, noting that they did not dare to confront his policies, and instead began provocative practices against independent countries like Iran.
In an interview with the "Tasnim" agency, Velayati considered that the Europeans' request to activate the trigger mechanism in the United Nations Security Council was a reaction to Trump's unilateral actions against them, adding that this step reflects the weakness of the European position in the face of American pressures.
The European troika (France, Germany, Britain) recently activated the trigger mechanism to reimpose UN sanctions on Iran, which a senior Iranian official considered to be "a step against diplomacy".
For his part, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that sanctions are not the end of the world, noting that some of the problems facing the country are due to internal reasons that require courage to acknowledge.
