The Public Prosecution in Egypt decided to refer the stepmother accused of killing 6 children and their father in the Dair Mawas Center in Minya Governorate to the Criminal Court, where an urgent trial session is scheduled to be held.
The prosecution had charged the accused, the second wife of the father, with several charges, the most prominent of which is the intentional murder of 6 children and their father, in addition to the attempted murder of the first wife.
The prosecution based its referral decision on the results of the investigations and the testimonies of witnesses, where it was found that the accused committed her crime out of revenge against the first wife, whom the husband had returned to his marital home.
* Details of the Crime
According to the investigations, the accused prepared bread at her residence, which she was accustomed to doing, and then sent part of it to the children.
However, she had mixed the toxic pesticide "Chlorfenapyr" with the bread.
First, she offered a piece of bread mixed with the pesticide to one of the children, who experienced a deterioration in his health condition, which made her confirm the effectiveness of the poison.
After four days, the accused prepared several loaves of bread mixed with the same toxic pesticide and sent them to the six children, resulting in their deaths.
The first wife survived this crime due to her insistence on not eating the poisoned bread.
* Investigations and Evidence
Police investigations confirmed the circumstances of the crime, and surveillance cameras recorded the moment one of the children transported the poisoned bread from the accused's house to theirs.
The Public Prosecution found, after inspecting the accused's house and taking samples of the remnants of the bread and cooking utensils, traces of the toxic pesticide in these materials, which was confirmed by forensic reports, showing that the children's deaths resulted from the effects of the poison that led to the failure of the body's vital organs.
* Confessions of the Accused
During the interrogation of the accused, she admitted to the details of committing the crime and conducted a reenactment of the incident that shocked Egyptian society.
Investigations confirmed that the accused committed her crime out of revenge against the first wife after her husband had taken her back.
* Details of the Tragedy
The incident had caused a great shock in the Egyptian public opinion, as the six children died suddenly in recent weeks, leading to rumors about them suffering from mysterious diseases such as meningitis, but the Ministry of Health categorically denied those rumors.
Earlier, Ali Muhammad, the children's uncle, revealed that the last gathering of the family was at the dining table, where everyone had the traditional "sun bread" in Upper Egypt.
After a few hours, the children began to feel unwell, and their health condition deteriorated suddenly. Soon, the children began to suffer from symptoms such as nausea and fever, and then three of them died on the same day, before the other children followed suit.
The fifth child, Rahma, was the last to die, although her condition was stable at first.
* Urgent Trial
Based on these developments, an urgent trial will be held for the accused in the Criminal Court, amidst a state of resentment and shock in Egyptian society due to this heinous crime.
