A high-level UN delegation led by the Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator in Syria, Adam Abdul Mawla, urgently appealed to the international community to enhance financial support and investment in Syria, warning of increasing humanitarian needs amidst deteriorating services and declining funding. The delegation emphasized that more than 16 million people are facing difficult conditions, with a focus on the suffering of children and families.

This came during the delegation's visit to the provinces of Idlib and Aleppo in northern Syria on June 29 and 30 last year, where they met with the governors of the two cities to discuss ways to enhance cooperation and push for reconstruction efforts after 14 years of war. The UN office in Syria issued a statement reaffirming "the organization's commitment to supporting the Syrian government and people in this critical phase".

During their tour, the delegation met with a number of internally displaced persons and returnees to their areas, listening to the challenges they face, especially regarding livelihoods and basic services. The statement highlighted the necessity of ensuring a "safe, voluntary, dignified, and sustainable" return for the displaced, with a focus on rehabilitating infrastructure.

Adam Abdul Mawla expressed his deep concern for the urgent needs of Syrians, saying: "I have witnessed firsthand the immense needs of children and families, but I have also been inspired by their resilience and determination to rebuild and recover from years of war towards a better future. The Syrian people deserve all the support that the international community can provide, and now is the time to act".

He added in his statement: "At this pivotal moment in history, investing in the Syrian people means a brighter future for the millions who have suffered greatly for a long time.. The Syrian people look to us with open hands and hopeful hearts, and we will not let them down".

The delegation's tour included a visit to the city of Maarat al-Numan in the Idlib countryside on June 29 to assess the humanitarian and medical situations, followed by a meeting in Aleppo on June 30 with its governor Azam al-Gharib, where they discussed the implementation of the joint UN program to enhance resilience in the city and its countryside.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Special Envoy of the United Nations to Syria, Najat Rushdi, through the "X" platform, affirmed "the international community's commitment to building a better future for Syrians", emphasizing the importance of "enhancing effective coordination, localizing humanitarian work, and empowering local organizations", while benefiting from the experiences of Syrians inside and outside the country.
