In a new escalation of tensions between Moscow and Kiev, Russian authorities in Volgograd announced this Friday morning the restriction of traffic on one of the longest bridges in Europe, as a result of a massive Ukrainian drone attack.
The Volgograd governor's office mentioned that the attack targeted the bridge over the Don River, which is the fifth longest bridge in Europe, explaining that military engineers are currently working to remove the debris, with no human casualties reported.
The Russian Ministry of Defense confirmed that Ukrainian drones, 39 in total, were destroyed by air defense units, with 13 specifically targeting Volgograd. The city's airport was closed for over three hours before flights resumed later on.
The exact damage to the bridge has not been determined yet, but the attack comes amid escalating mutual strikes between Russia and Ukraine, as attention turns to the possibility of further escalation in vital areas deep inside Russia.
