Tunisian Ons Jabeur and Japanese Naomi Osaka advanced to the third round of the Italian Open tennis tournament in Rome today, Thursday, after the withdrawal of Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova and ninth-seeded Paula Badosa due to injury. Osaka defeated Swiss Viktorija Golubic 2-6, 7-5, 6-1, raising doubts about Badosa's physical fitness before the French Open following the Spaniard's withdrawal from another tournament due to a recurring back injury. Kvitova withdrew due to a leg issue, allowing Jabeur to advance. Jabeur, who has reached the final three times in the four Grand Slam tournaments, will face Italian Jasmine Paolini in the next round. Petra Kvitova, the 35-year-old Czech, secured her first victory since returning from maternity leave by defeating Irina-Camelia Begu in the first round.
