Today in Moscow, Friday, President Trump's envoy, Steve Whitkov, met with Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss an American plan to end the war in Ukraine, conditions that Kyiv and its European allies fear may greatly benefit Moscow.
Whitkov has emerged as Washington's main interlocutor with Putin as Trump seeks to reach an agreement to end the war, now entering its fourth year, having already held three lengthy meetings with the Russian president.
This latest visit comes after talks this week where Ukrainian and European officials resisted some American proposals on how to settle the bloodiest conflict in Europe since World War II.
Whitkov's visit comes a day after Trump criticized the missile and drone attack on Kyiv that resulted in the death of at least 12 people, posting on social media a message saying, "Vladimir, stop!"
