The Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs said today, Thursday, that the Polish Embassy in Tehran has assumed the tasks of the European Union countries that evacuated their embassies in the Iranian capital.
Portugal, Ireland, and Germany had temporarily relocated their embassy staff from Tehran last week due to the current threat situation, while Bulgaria closed its embassy in Tehran and evacuated its diplomats and their families to neighboring Azerbaijan.
Reuters quoted Ministry spokesman Paveł Roński as saying: "As the country holding the presidency of the European Union, we are taking on these tasks".
The Polish Foreign Ministry stated that Minister Radosław Sikorski held talks with his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi, to urge Iran to adhere to a ceasefire in its conflict with Israel and the United States.
